As Master of Orient lodge my goal was to have a stress-free, enjoyable Masonic year. I wanted members and their families to be able to participate in various events and activities. For example, early in the year we held a Family Fall Event where we went apple picking at lookout farm in Natick. Several families attended and had a fun day. Later that year our Senior Warden and his wife organized a Murder Mystery dinner for members and their families. Many attendees were given roles and instructed to play a part in the production. Only by chance did I end up being the killer. Who knew?
We also completed a lot of serious Masonic work. We were able to successfully update the bylaws by following Grand Lodge guidelines with little to no controversy. A by law committee was formed in the previous year and made suggestions related to edited certain language and increasing the dues.
Orient raised five Masons (four received all three degrees and one was left over from the previous year). All five men remain active in the lodge today and are very excited about their Masonic journey.
We lost two dedicated members during my year as Master. One was the Assistant Secretary and the other a sideline member who never missed a meeting. They both left us too soon and will never be forgotten.
One of the biggest and most exciting part of my year was the time capsule. The brainchild of my predecessor, it was a tool used to bring us closer to each other and to the Norwood Community. We made the time capsule available for the public to view at several events including Norwood Day, the open house/donation day, at Masonicon, in the display cabinet in the library for the month of January, 2017, and during the cornerstone rededication. This gave us the ability to show ourselves and Freemasonry in general to people who may be curious.
Thus, because of the officers and members of Orient Lodge I think the 2016-17 year was a complete success. I was honored to have been given the challenge and to have helped inch our way closer to greatness.
Fraternally,
Wor. Robert J. Disario
